A brilliant perennial addition to any garden. Rudbeckia Hirta grows up to a meter tall with large golden blooms with a rich chocolate coloured centre. The profuse blooms burst into life in August up until the first hard frost. Rudbeckia Hirta is a fantastic addition to a pollinator garden. The tall sunny flowers are a magnet for bees, hoverflies and butterflies, birds flock to any seedheads allowed to remain on the plant. It is a gorgeous cut flower with an impressive vase life.
Rudbeckia seeds are best started off in pots undercover rather than sown directly.
Sow indoors in a warm place from February to July. If after 4 weeks there is no sign of germination, move to a cold place for 4 weeks to trigger germination.
Acclimatise the small plants to the outdoors over a period of 7-10 days when all risk of frost has passed.
Plant in a sunny spot where it can grow and return year after year. Prolong the flowering period by dead-heading spent blooms.
Flowers from August to the first hard frost.
After the blooms and foliage have faded, cut the plant right down to the ground.
