Yellow Rattle
Yellow Rattle is fondly known as natures lawnmower, as yellow rattle grows it weakens grasses by taking nutrients from grassroots. Grass becomes less robust and creates natural gaps in the ground for wildflowers to flourish.
Yellow Rattle seeds need 10 weeks of cold weather to come out of dormancy to germinate, ideally, the yellow rattle seeds should be sown by the end of Autumn. Yellow rattle has a short shelf life, only sow fresh seeds. Yellow Rattle is popular with bees, long-tongued bumblebees have easy access to nectar, while short-tongued bumblebees puncture holes at the base of the flower. Honeybees then use these same puncture holes to access the nectar.
